OXYCOP Advanced Wastewater Treatment Solutions

A custom-designed, integrated process consisting of Bio-Selection, Mechanical Aeration and Clarification. OxyCOP addresses individual treatment plant needs whether municipal or industrial through demonstrated adaptability, operational simplicity and shear performance.

Process Functions
OxyCOP offers process design custom suited to individual plant requirements:

  • Carbonaceous BOD Removal/ Nitrification
    • Effluent BOD<10 mg/L
    • Effluent TSS<12 mg/L
    • Effluent NH4-<1.0 mg/L
  • Nitrification/ Denitrification
    • Effluent TN<10 mg/L
  • Enhanced Biological Phosphorous Removal
    • Effluent TP<1.0 mg/L

Integrated Bio-Selection (Optional) Bio-Selectors
OxyCOP incorporates a three stage bio-selector (Sx-1, Sx-2, Sx-3) which provides an environmental condition that favors floc forming microorganisms while eliminating filamentous organisms. By selecting floc forming microorganisms which exhibit good settling characteristics, the process is accurately designed and easily controlled. The bio-selection zones have the added benefit of efficient denitrification. The selectors are followed by an anoxic zone (Ax) to complete the denitrification process. In cases where phosphorous removal is required, these bioselectors can be designed to operate in an anaerobic environment, allowing the simultaneous uptake of volatile fatty acids (VFAs) and release of phosphorous required to achieve "luxury uptake" in the oxidation ditch (Ox).

Oxidation Ditch
OxyCOP is designed using an oxidation ditch. Oxygen is transferred from the atmosphere to the mixed liquor using various forms of aeration, such as Landy mechanical aerators pictured below, to achieve oxidation, nitrification and phosphorous uptake. These aerators assure that adequate channel velocities are maintained within the ditch.

OXYCOP Process Features
While oxidation ditches and clarifiers have been used together as independent processes for wastewater treatment for some fifty years, little consideration has been devoted to merging both processes together to and hence dramatically improve the effluent result. WesTech's OxyCOP activated sludge system addresses this component merger for the advanced treatment of municipal and industrial wastewater. The system takes advantage of new techniques which enhance the performance of each process in harmony resulting in a combined process that handles shock loads with little disturbance, produces superior effluent quality and delivers a partially stabilized sludge. OxyCOP Process Features include:

  • Single Source of Aeration and Mixing
  • Simple Operation and Low Maintenance
  • High Shock Load Resistance and Overall Capacity
  • Advanced Filamentous Bulking Control
  • Enhanced Simultaneous Nitrification-Denitrification
  • Biological Phosphorous Removal
  • Efficient Clarification
