WesTech Solids Contact (SC)Clarifiers provide high rate treatment of water. Applications include lime softening, precipitation of iron and magnesium in the treatment of groundwater and turbidity removal in both ground water and surface water treatment.

The operating principles of the SC Clarifier excel in cases where a very small amount of solids (usually less than 200 ppm) are very disperse and will not settle well. Through coagulations recirculation and enhanced flocculation, higher concentrations of the same material are achieved which typically settle extremely well.

The SC clarifier is comprised of:

1. A draft tube
2. Reaction zone
3. Sludge blanket zone
4. A clarification zone
5. A radial or axial turbine which recirculates the settled solids from the bottom, and
6. A concentric shaft or center column supported WesTech precision bearing drive unit (available totally grease lubricated to prevent oil conamination).

The turbine mixes the highly concentrated settled solids with the low concentration influent and disperses the mixture into the reaction well, where the solids coagulate and settle. The flow passes through the sludge blanket at the bottom edge of the reaction well, filtering out the few particles that did remain suspended. Rotating rake arms transport the settled solids to the\ center of the tank for removal, The flow then rises upward in the clarification zone to radial launder troughs suspended at the surface. The clarified effluent is drawn off evenly by means of radial collection launders.
　

A small portion of the settled sludge is periodically "blown down" or drawn off by opening a timer actuated valve. Usually associated with the blowdown valve and line is a back flush system that thoroughly flushes the blowdown line with clear water. WesTech can provid complete blowdown systems and controls which insure optimum performance with low maintenance.

In water treatment, removal of turbidity, algae, color, iron and many other contaminants are key benefits gained through the use of a Solids Contact Clarifier. These units are particularly advantageous in lime softening of groundwater since the precipitated solids help seed the influent, growing larger crystals of precipitate to provide a thicker sludge, and clearer effluent. Treatment of surface water supplies and river water treatment are among the most effective applications.

Essentially, these units combine coagulation, flocculation, clarification, and sludge removal in a single compact tank. Reduced space requirements and less costly installation are realized initially and operating costs are kept to a minimum over the life of the unit.

WesTech maintains consistent fabrication practices in keeping with ISO 9001 Certification. All equipment is completely trial assembled in the shop prior to my erection work. This helps to insure a trouble free installation.
